U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT LIFTS RECOMMENDATION TO DEFER ISRAEL TRAVEL
New York – September 12, 2014: The United States Department has lifted its recommendation that Americans “consider deferring non-essential travel to Israel,” announced on July 21 during the recent Operation Protective Edge conflict with Hamas.
“This is excellent news,” says Uri Steinberg, Israel Tourism Commissioner, North America, “and while tourism has already begun to rebound in the wake of the end of the conflict, this will add additional impetus.”
2013 was the all-time record year for tourism to Israel, and the first half of 2014 soared even higher. “Not surprisingly, tourism suffered during July and August – even though more than 100,000 tourists continued their vacations,” Steinberg continued, “but we are already hearing strong indications from travel agents and group organizers that bookings for the fall and winter are rebounding.”
